Format: Net team match play modeled after the Solheim Cup, American vs. European women golfers. First 6 holes - better ball of the partners (four-ball). Second 6 holes - 2 person scramble. Last 6 holes - alternate shot; partners must use same golf ball. Partners decide who will tee off on odd # holes & who will tee off on even # holes; shots are then alternated.
*Visiting team has honors on 1st tee; winners have honors after that.
Teams: Team of 16 players/club representing A, B, C & D flights. Players compete as twosome vs. twosome, format changes every six holes. Each format worth 1 point for the winning twosome; ties earn 1/2 point. Each foursome vying for 3 points, point/6 holes. Maximum team points possible for winning club = 24.
Prize: Winning team gets possession of the Solheim Cup trophy for the ensuing year.
History: 2006, initiated by Chequessett Golf Club as a team competition with the Captains. Fall, 2009 Chequessett withdraws, tournament in limbo. Summer, 2010 theOcean Edge Women's Golf Association agrees to play annual 'Solheim Cup' competition against the Captains 18-Hole Women's Association. Sept. 29, 2010, inaugural Captains vs. Ocean Edge 'Solheim Cup' held at the Captains.
