THE CAPTAINS GOLF COURSE
18 HOLE WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION
Spring Team
Spring Team, (also know as the State Team Matches) is one of the major tournaments run by WGAM (Women's Golf Association of Massachusetts).   You must join WGAM (required handicap index of 30.4 or less) to participate. WGAM offers a number of tournaments for its members during the year in addition to Spring Team.  See their web site for more information.

The purpose of Spring Team matches is to provide competition among players of similar handicaps with the team playing as a "unit" representing their club.  In order to acheive this goal, team players are asked to commit to playing all five matches.  Based on this commitment, the teams are arranged into "Cups" according to their team aggregate, thus providing the keenest competition possible.

Six clubs are assigned to each Cup.  Matches are held on 5 consecutive Thursdays beginning in late April, and finishing in May.  Each club plays each other once.  Format is individual match play net.  Players play in twosomes, with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM.  Scores are posted as "tournament" type.  Lunch follows the tournament, and many new friendships are made.

Each hole played is worth one point --- ties are 1/2
point.  Points are accumulated for the team at each event, throughout the 5 matches.  The members from the winning club for the Cup are awarded pins at the final match luncheon.

In 2008 the second team from Captains won the Cup for the second year in a row!  The first team from Captains came in last in their Cup.
