THE CAPTAINS GOLF COURSE
18 HOLE WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION
Captains Challenge Cup
The Captains Challenge Cup is an inter-club competition that began in 2006. It gives association members the opportunity to play in two-person teams in friendly competitive matches at other courses around the Cape. Tournaments are held in May, June, August, September and October.
The courses that participate in the Captains Challenge Cup league are Cranberry Valley, Dennis, Falmouth, Olde Barnstable/Hyannis, Quashnet Valley, Sandwich Hollows, Yarmouth and Captains. During the season, there are 7 matches so that each club gets to compete head-to-head against every club in the league. The winning club from the prior year is the "travel team" and does not host an event.
Each tournament consists of 6 players from each club --- 3 two-person teams in flights (A, B, and C) based on handicaps. Format is best ball of the two-some (four-ball) match play. Each hole is worth 1 point, and ties are worth 1/2 point. Results accumulate for each team for that match, and throughout the season for each club. Scores are posted as "tournament" type. Each match includes lunch after the tournament, so many new friends are made from other clubs.
The winning club gets possession of the Captains Challenge Cup trophy for the year. Captains is the current champion, winning the cup in 2007. Check out the trophy in the Captains trophy case!
The tournament dates for 2008 are: May 28 at Quashnet Valley; June 9 at Dennis; June 16 at Bass River, June 23 at Falmouth, August 21 at Sandwich Hollows, September 29 at Cranberry Valley and October 6 at Hyannis. If you want to participate and did not already respond in the association renewal package, please email Pat Eggers.
